Brighton defeated Tottenham 3-0 at the American Express Community Stadium, in a match where the side which lacked heart and desire were embarrassed for 90 minutes.
From the very first kick to the final whistle, Brighton displayed their ambition to win the game flawlessly.
A mistake from Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris resulted in the ball landing at the feet of Brighton forward Neil Maupay, who from 2 yards could not miss.
Young debutant Aaron Connolly scored the rest of the goals for The Seagulls.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino brought on substitutions to attempt to bring his side back into the game, however no impact was made from the likes of Harry Winks or Lucas Moura.
England captain Harry Kane had a golden opportunity in the 71st minute to, but the Tottenham talisman skied the ball high over the cross bar-easily Spurs’ only threatening chance of the game.
The win for Brighton moves them up to 12th win 9 points and Graham Potter knows if his team perform like that week in week out, they’ll be far away from the relegation battle.
Brace scorer Connolly in dreamland
19-year-old Aaron Connolly took the opportunity, to make his first start in the Premier League, with both hands as he scored two of Brighton’s three goals.
The Irish forward pulled of a cheeky backheeled flick which was blocked by substitute goalkeeper Gazzaniga, though fortunately for Connolly the ball fell to him as if it was his lucky day.
The second featured some individual brilliance as he cut inside and fizzed the ball into the bottom corner of the Tottenham goal to cap off a terrific man of the match performance.
Before the match Brighton had only scored 5 goals in the Premier League this season-Connolly’s introduction to the first team has revealed a hidden gem amongst Brighton’s ranks.
Lloris fumble the least of his concerns
Catch or punch it?
French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris appeared to be caught in two minds when approaching the Brighton cross-as a result the goalkeeper was caught flapping with the ball and it spilled onto the six-yard box.
Furthermore, Lloris landed onto his left arm very awkwardly and subsequently had to be substituted off.
The painful injury has been confirmed as a broken arm and Lloris will be out for at least 3 months.
After making a couple mistakes recently in the league, maybe a break for Lloris is just what he needs.
Tottenham going from bad to worse
After a 7-2 thrashing at home in the Champions League against Bayern Munich, you’d think Spurs would come out all guns blazing against a Brighton side who’ve only scored 5 goals all season…wrong.
Whilst watching the game it you would have thought Brighton were the team fighting for a top 4 position.
Courageous, energetic, daring-all associated with Brighton’s terrific performance. In comparison, Tottenham were lacklustre throughout every aspect of the match.
The London side had zero ideas on the ball and there was no creativity to be seen all game from the likes of Eriksen, Son or even Kane.
Tottenham have now failed to win in their last away 10 games in the Premier League, stretching back to a 2-1 victory at Fulham on 20 January-they’re definitely a side in crisis.
Man of the match-Aaron Connolly (Brighton)
Debutant Connolly was a deserving man of the match.
The forward scored a brilliant brace to solidify his team’s dominating stance on the game and worked his socks off until coming off, where he received a standing ovation from the home crowd.
What’s next for both sides?
Following the forthcoming international break, Tottenham will face a Watford side in an even worse run of form that themselves.
Brighton on the other hand will play Aston Villa, which is a fixture where The Seagulls have only won 3 times from 22 matches.
